### Why won't my flowering bonsai bloom?

Not enough sun, or the buds got pruned off. Most flowering species — azalea, cherry, wisteria — only set buds with 4-6 hours of direct sun, and most bloom on last year's growth, so a late-summer trim removes next spring's flowers. Prune right after flowering ends, move the tree into more light, and skip high-nitrogen fertilizer from late summer on.
